Why do we celebrate Christmas? Upon reflection, there is nowhere in the Bible that we are commanded to celebrate Jesus’ birth. Yet it is inevitably important that His birth be remembered when we realise that two of the gospels give detailed information about the very events surrounding the birth of our Lord. We must realise that the birth is also important and significant as a moment in time, for it is then, when Jesus enters the history of mankind. It is about an infinite God that humbled Himself by taking on frail humanity to be identified with His creation. The fact that we do not know the precise day and year makes the event an even more interesting mystery that calls for us to investigate and see what we can find in the very birth of Jesus Christ! Let’s put on new thinking caps and play Sherlock Holmes in this month of December.
