Many years ago, my husband Mathew was diagnosed to be suffering from 'Trigeminal neuralgia'. This is a rare medical condition whereby abnormal blood vessels press against the nerves. It causes a stabbing or electric-shock-like pain in parts of the face.
The doctors had recommended that he underwent gamma-knife as a solution to this medical condition. However, by choosing gamma-knife, it would also mean that half his face would be permanently numbed as the nerves would be cut. Another alternative to alleviate the pain was to take oral medication, Tegretol. This was a more viable option. Mathew had been on Tegretol, a life-long anti-seizure drug since then. However, it was obvious that Tegretol could not control nor cease the pain, let alone cure it. More often than not, Tegretol served only as an ineffective placebo.
When he was stricken, the part of his face became very sensitive and the slightest wind from a fan or a breeze would trigger the pain. This had been going on for more than a decade and the root cause of it was unknown.
Each time it happened, the pain lasted for minutes intermittently and it could continue in this manner for days and weeks. It usually became more acute and intense at night. Sleep would also be interrupted throughout the night. The simple action of eating and chewing of food was a struggle. Just to finish a mouthful of food was a challenge.
The last episode occurred on 18 April 2011, the first night of the CVCC Holy Week fast, a Monday. I was still at work at my desk at home late into the night, as usual. Mathew came down with a severe pain on the sides of his face and head. He walked up to me, unable to utter a word, his face was red and contorted. We had to face this together, head on. We prayed together. Mathew knelt down. I laid hands on him. We cast out every spirit of infirmity and the Holy Spirit led Mathew to verbally renounce every spirit that was not of Christ. I used the anointing oil to anoint his head and body with the healing touch from Jesus. At the end of 15 minutes of persistence in that posture, we sensed such a release. My husband's cheerful countenance returned. There was such a relief on his face. The pain was gone! We knew immediately that healing had taken place and it was for good because throughout the night, he slept soundly and the pain has not returned ever since.
In the past, different individuals had prayed for him and laid hands on him but the pain returned and would disturb him sporadically. The difference this time was a revelation from the Holy Spirit to get the afflicted to make a verbal renouncement and rejection of the spirit of infirmity. That proved to be good riddance.
May all glory be unto Jesus and His finished work on the cross. Praise God for He is unto us, our Jehovah Rophe.
