My pregnancy and birth testimony isn’t so much about God working a “huge” miracle to give me a child, but rather a testimony about his grace, mercy and faithfulness. I’m so thankful to Him for all the things that could have gone wrong, but didn’t. I’m thankful for how He’s been teaching me not to fear and to believe for His goodness, so that at the end of the day, I stand out among other mums not because of how healthy I am, or how good I am at giving birth, but purely because of Christ’s spirit in me.
I had a spirit of fear planted in me some 10 years ago that I would not be able to conceive. That was a scary thing because having a family was something I greatly desired. I made a prayer request on Covenant Vision’s webpage and was surprised to get a personal reply from Rev Francis. He gave me bible verses on fear and taught me how to pray in faith.
God enabled me to conceive quickly and easily. The next challenge for me was to believe that all would go well during pregnancy and that God would protect the growing child in my womb. I had to continually use God’s Word to fight off the devil’s lies that I would miscarry or that there would be something wrong with my baby.
God gave me a very easy pregnancy and I didn’t have any alarming problems, apart from severe backache which He healed! Birth was not what I expected. It was very hard work and there were many times when I just wanted to give up. We faced setbacks and disappointments but the Lord reminded me to have my confidence stayed on Him and not on my circumstances. I was able with the Lord’s help, to remain fearless throughout the whole event.
My waters broke early Saturday morning. We wanted to give birth at a birthing centre instead of a hospital but they had a policy that women must give birth within 24 hours of their waters breaking. If not, they had to be transferred to hospital to be given antibiotics. Labour was slow to progress and contractions only became very strong in the evening. 20 hours later, the midwife had me transferred in ambulance to hospital because she didn’t think the baby would come out in time. I prayed that baby would come out in 24 hours. Our dear Josiah came 23 ½ hours after my waters broke, through water birth. God is faithful! Everything went well in the end and the midwife who attended the birth was also a Christian. That really encouraged me!
Josiah is now 3 months and growing very well! He’s got a very calm and confident spirit and doesn’t cry a lot. God is now teaching us how to be godly parents. There’s so much more to my story, but details aren’t that important. God is just so good and we want to give Him all the thanks, praise, and glory!
