Our first and long-awaited grandson, Ethan Kong, was born on 1st October, 2010 to our children Ernest and Noeline. It was the most beautiful result of persevering and continuous prayer for over a period of two years, trusting that God would grant us the desire of our hearts.
Needless to say, we were all overjoyed when we first heard the good news, and throughout Ethan's 9-month development in Noeline's womb, we continually declared that he is 'fearfully and wonderfully made' (Psalm 139:14). During this time there were a few hiccups, but each time we turned to the Lord in prayer – and fighting the good fight of faith, knowing that He would keep her and baby well. AND GOD WAS ALWAYS FAITHFUL to deliver! Amen!
Baby Ethan continued to grow well at each monthly visit to the doctor's. And we never stopped giving glory to God, and marveling at His most wonderful creation of life in Ethan as he continued to grow to full term.
Soon, the end of September came and it was almost time for Ethan to be birthed out. The doctor intended to induce labour on Saturday October 1st, if there were no signs of impending delivery, because of the high level of bile reading in Noeline's liver test, although the blood test was fine. However, thanks to God, her water bag burst on Friday and she was admitted to hospital. When we heard this, the first thing we did was to pray and fast for the safety of mother and child in every respect.
As the day wore on, and Noeline's contractions got somewhat closer; and as the hours went by, with still very little signs of actual labour starting, I began to get more and more anxious. I had prayed general prayers, but something prompted me that more specific prayers were needed, remembering Philippians 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (NKJV)
As I asked the Holy Spirit to guide me as to how I now ought to pray, I was led to Rev Henson's wife, Serene's blog in which they had detailed the home delivery of their 7th child, Anna Joy. Soon I began praying very specifically – for Noeline's body to be fully prepared for delivery, baby's cooperation in the birth process, the necessary full dilation of the cervix, the timely turning of the baby's head and so on. Indeed, I was truly blessed by all that was written in the blog. So I continued praying all through the last four hours of Noeline's actual labour till the good news of Ethan's arrival came through. That was the best news ever, the moment we had all been waiting for. All that I had been praying for helped to speed up Noeline's delivery process! ALL GLORY TO GOD!
"I was able to experience a natural birth which we had wanted so badly; but most amazing of all, I did not need any pain relaxants or epidural throughout the time of my labour. And even though I am of small built, God graciously granted me the experience of a supernatural painless delivery. All I can say is – THANK YOU LORD and ALL PRAISE AND GLORY TO YOU for this most wondrous gift of life in baby Ethan!" Noelin
"Yes, all glory belongs to our God, and as we had put our trust in Him for this supernatural delivery, God had been faithful every step of the way. Amen! We trust Him to continue to give us the strength and the wisdom we need, as parents to our beautiful 3.5kg baby Ethan! Thanks be to God, and to all who had supported us in prayer throughout our beautiful journey, a big thank you too." Ernest
